![]() ![]() Paper doesn’t win fights, and that’s why you fight the fight. ![]() Even though Josh Taylor on paper and even visually, he can do more things, you’ve got to give him that. It’s almost like he can’t help but to be drawn into a fight to prove that he’s tough, to prove that he belongs, to prove that he can back a fighter up and fight inside. “ I haven’t seen Josh Taylor box a complete 12 rounds and come out unscathed where he was disciplined the whole fight,” Ward continued. “Can you rise to the occasion when it’s for all the marbles and the lights are bright and you need to be great? Can Josh Taylor stop what he believes is coming from Jose Ramirez? “You don’t start changing yourself because an opponent says, ‘I see you, I’ve watched your film and I know what you’re going to do.’ The question is, can you stop it? “When he fought Maurice Hooker, he came forward and was willing to take two to give two and that’s who he is. “Jose Ramirez should be Jose Ramirez,” said Andre Ward to ESPN. Ramirez is more of a slugger than Prograis, and he’s capable of taking advantage of Taylor if he lets his temper get the best of him. If Taylor fights the same way against Ramirez on Saturday, he might get stopped. He frequently brawled when he could have won the fight rather easily by boxing almost cost him. Taylor’s lack of ring discipline hurt him. He was fortunate the fight wasn’t halted, as his eye looked gruesomely swollen. The referee and inside doctor arguably could have stepped that fight after Taylor’s right eye swelled shut in the championship rounds. We saw that in Taylor’s fight against Regis Prograis in 2019.Īlthough Taylor won the fight by a 12 round majority decision, he ran out of gas after six rounds and could have lost. Ward believes that Taylor, 30, tends to slug too much and can be drawn into wars that don’t serve him well. I then see the last 3 being close, with the exception of the last round being a big one for Ramirez while he chases the win.Andre Ward questions whether IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Josh Taylor (17-0, 13 KOs) can stay composed enough to box for 12 rounds without getting drawn into brawls by his aggressive opponent, WBC/WBO champ Jose Ramirez (26-0, 17 KOs) this Saturday night at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, in Las Vegas, Nevada.įight fans outside the US can watch the fight LIVE on FITE (click here!) Taylor in those rounds will use his jab, trade a bit up close, and set up a big left hand that Jose doesn’t see coming which stuns him. I then see Ramirez winning rounds 5 and 6, but putting a lot into them and Taylor coming back to win the next few, while figuring Ramirez out in the process. Bit of a ramble but I see Taylor winning the first 4 rounds in a close contest, clinching up close, and Taylor landing left hands down the middle. I’d say his body punching is overrated but his combinations are underrated. I’ve seen people call Jose Ramirez one-dimensional, I kind have got to agree with that, he hasn’t showed anything else to his game. I feel as well Ramirez was lucky to get the Zepeda and Postol decisions as unification clashes were on the line, they easily could’ve went against him. Ramirez also tends to have a good spell, then take a round off, which in this bout couldn’t go too well with how close it could be. ![]() Ramirez has faced a few boxers in his recent fights, but none are as strong or as good on the inside as Taylor is. I feel as well Taylor has experience in fighting non-stop pressure fighters as he’s fought Baranchyk, and Prograis was putting on a bit of pressure as well. Taylor has advantages in pretty much every area as well. I think Ramirez is open for the straight left and uppercut, so I could see Taylor scoring a knockdown. Ramirez tends to start very slowly and his strongest period of the fight clashes with Taylor’s strongest period, which is why I think the mid-late rounds will be bangers. Ramirez has fought one southpaw in his career, Jose Zepeda, who actually is a pretty similar fighter to Josh Taylor but has worse defence and is smaller. “Taylor is British and Ramirez is Mexican bla bla bla” Fight threads are made by mods unless specified.Mods will remove reposts and low-effort posts. No spoilers in post titles 24 hours after a fight.Be civil - no personal insults or direct attacks. ![]() Lists of the best fights in boxing history, a guide to sanctioning bodies, and details on world champions from around the globe.
